Do you have something to say at the Conference?

PROFIBUS Group issues call for papers for 2015 ConferenceThe excellent feedback obtained from previous conferences clearly indicates that we should continue to focus on the User community. Consequently the 2015 conference to be held on 23-24 June will concentrate on the real issues of design, implementation, maintenance and management of PROFIBUS and PROFINET systems.

Who will be attending?

The conference is designed for engineers, managers and indeed anyone concerned with the real issues of implementing fieldbus and/or industrial Ethernet technologies. The conference programme will contain a mixture of presentations, demonstrations and hands-on practical sessions that are suitable for a wide variety of experience; from first-time users to those with extensive experience with working systems.

What should be presented?

In addition, the Conference will cover latest developments in PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology for factory and process automation including safety, motion control, wireless implementations and integration with the Internet – “The Internet of Things”. The event will be supported by an exhibition of the latest products and technology demonstrations from member companies.

We now need speakers who are willing to make a short (30/40 minute) presentation on applications and other user aspects of PROFIBUS and PROFINET. Topics can include system design, commissioning and maintenance and can cover any application area or industry sector.  Interactive presentations featuring live demonstrations and hands-on activities are particularly welcome. We are also seeking proposals for papers covering the latest developments in PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology as well as case studies illustrating their use in real world applications. Papers covering current “hot topics” are always welcome.

How to submit proposals for presentations

Proposals for presentations or workshops should be sent to The Papers Committee at to arrive no later than 30th November 2014 addressing the following points:

  1. The working title
  2. Preferred method of presentation: Formal paper or workshop
  3. List up to 5 bullet points to show the subject matter to be covered
  4. Indicate to which of our target audiences the presentation will be of most value:
    1. End Users including installation and maintenance personnel
    2. System designers
    3. Decision makers including managers
  5. Indicate in which “main theme(s)” the presentation best fits:
    1. Process – including hazardous environment
    2. Factory Automation
    3. PROFINET
    4. PROFIBUS
  6. Indicate if suitable for beginners

Presenters will of course be given free admission, refreshments including lunch on the day of their presentation.

Proposals for presentations or workshops should be sent to The Papers Committee at

A Mark of PROFIBUS Excellence and Integrity

Accredited PROFIBUS Company

Example of one of the earliest certificates issued

Responding to many requests from members and PROFIBUS users, the PROFIBUS Group has created a certificate for UK member companies that undertake to  use only Certified PROFIBUS Installers supervised by certified PROFIBUS Engineers in all of their PROFIBUS projects.

Companies are only entitled to display the Certificate if they are current members of The PROFIBUS Group UK – check here to confirm – and employ a sufficient number of Certified Installers and Engineers to carry out their PROFIBUS projects.

Check here to search the list of Certified Installers and Engineers to verify individual qualifications.

Instrumentation Scotland & Offshore Systems welcomes the continued support of The PROFIBUS Group.

Located in the heart of the Offshore industry in Aberdeen, the exhibition brings together the many companies who supply products and services specific to the offshore industry in addition to others representing processing, power generation, paper, distilling, water and waste, and marine engineering in north east Scotland.

With the offshore sector employing many contract workers, time is certainly money and Instrumentation Scotland and Offshore Systems offers both visitors and exhibitors an excellent way to network in an informal environment, within their own region. Free lunch is on hand to encourage a lunchtime visit from even the most time conscious visitor! Face-to-face discussions, free presentations and demonstrations allow both visitors and exhibitors the chance to understand each other’s requirements and act on them.

The PROFIBUS Group will be presenting on several subjects at the event including:

PROFIsafe Basics – An introduction to PROFIsafe including how it works, why we need it and what it means for functional safety

Presented by Peter Brown, Functional Safety Specialist, Siemens and

PROFINET – Applying the Ethernet Standard to Industrial Automation.

PROFINET is considered to be natural evolution of PROFIBUS DP from a serial fieldbus system into Industrial Ethernet. It gives system developers the opportunity of combining the robustness and proven functionality of PROFIBUS with the flexibility and performance of Industrial Ethernet. PROFINET has a number of advantages over PROFIBUS such as more flexible topology options, higher performance capabilities, the opportunity of operating plant in a more efficient and cost effective way and downtime reduction due to increased redundancy capabilities and a reduction in the time taken to replace faulty devices.
