PROFIBUS and PROFINET applications continue to grow at an amazing rate!

PROFIBUS 2012 Node Count

PROFIBUS 2012 Node Count

New figures released by PI show that during 2012 the PROFIBUS installed base grew to 43.6 million nodes while the number of installed PROFINET nodes rose to 5.8 million. The number of PROFIBUS devices in process automation increased to over 7.5 million. PROFIsafe now has over 2.15 million nodes in place.

Free-to-attend seminar on PROFIBUS and PROFINET Systems Safety and Security

Seminar session

A typical PROFIBUS Group Seminar session

There are still a few places available at the PROFIBUS Group’s free-to-attend seminar covering crucial design, installation and maintenance issues for safe and secure automation systems using PROFIBUS, PROFINET and PROFIsafe.

Taking place in Coventry on 23rd April, this one-day seminar addresses important safety and security issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in automated manufacturing and advanced engineering applications. It covers key application areas such as packaging, printing, electrical and electronics assembly, robotics, automotive engineering, drives, mechanical handling and logistics, control systems and energy management, it focuses on the safety aspects of system design and operations.

Supported by live demonstrations and case studies the seminar will be of great value to Designers, Production Engineers and System Engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of modern automated factories and machinery.

The PROFIBUS Group will be participating in the Sensors & Instrumentation for Test, Measurement & Control exhibition and conference at the NEC Birmingham, UK – 25 & 26 September 2013. We will be presenting a technical session at 15:00 on the first day of the event.

PROFIBUS UK at Sensing Technology 2012

PROFIBUS UK at Sensing Technology 2012

Entitled “Overview of PROFIBUS and PROFINET – characteristics and features” the presentation will cover application areas and industries, showing how these flexible technologies can provide open, cost effective and reliable solutions across a range of application areas including factory automation, process control, high reliability and safety related applications.

It will encourage potential users that PROFIBUS and PROFINET are economically worthwhile, comparatively easy to use and can give very reliable control. The presenters will also explain the benefits of joining the UK PROFIBUS Group. The PROFIBUS stand will feature some of the tools in common usage for configuring, commissioning and testing PROFIBUS systems.

The presentation will be led by our Technical Officer, Andy Verwer ably assisted by other Profibus Group Committee members Peter Thomas, Dale Fittes and Richard Needham.

About Sensors & Instrumentation

Sensors & Instrumentation is a brand new dedicated exhibition is intended for engineers and technicians in Process, Instrumentation, Design and Maintenance in the Food, Dairy, Beverage & Brewing, Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology, Chemical, Oil & Gas, Automotive and Aerospace sectors. It builds on the success of Sensing Technology 2012 where The PROFIBUS Group played a prominent part in the proceedings.

Latest Products

For those looking for new products or simply the latest information, with the enhanced Sensors & Instrumentation 2013 exhibition everything needed will literally be under one roof – from sensors, test and measurement equipment, and other types of instrumentation; to interesting seminars and knowledgeable professionals. This national Sensors & Instrumentation exhibition is now in it’s fourth year and has evolved to meet the demands of both exhibitors and visitors.
Organised by leading industry publisher Datateam Business Media and trade show expert Trident Exhibitions, and backed by a wide range of industrial media organisations, this new event is built on the solid foundations of the previous Sensing Technology exhibition.

PROFIBUS on Facebook

Ok, it took me some time to take the plunge, but finally I’ve accepted as a fact that some people actually do communicate using Facebook. So I’ve set up a page for The PROFIBUS Group, it’s at:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Profibus-Group/541061935924913

Now all you have to do is “Like” it, apparently.

Please.

The Workshops will follow a new format of multi-vendor collaboration led by experts

Hands-on workshops at the PROFIBUS Conference

Hands-on Workshops

To be presented at the Stratford Manor Hotel on 26th June, the PROFIBUS Group’s 20th Anniversary Conference and Exhibition will feature a highly informative series of hands-on workshops covering PROFIBUS and PROFINET system design, device configuration and commissioning. They will demonstrate the use of popular tools and techniques for health checking and trouble shooting. A variety of products will be connected and configured into demonstration PROFIBUS and PROFINET systems in front of the audience, much like the “plugfest” concept seen in Germany.

Here’s the current line up:

  • PROFIBUS device configuration and PLUGFEST.  An opportunity to bring  along your PROFIBUS device and incorporate it into a working system – Andy Verwer, VTC
  • PROFIBUS Health Monitoring – Dennis van Booma, Procentec and Dale Fittes,  Hitex
  • PROFINET Configuration and PLUGFEST.  An opportunity to bring along your PROFINET device and incorporate it into a working system – Manjit Ojla & Andy Williams,  Siemens
  • Ethernet and PROFINET Frame Analysis. Practical hands-on use WireShark to look at Ethernet and PROFINET frames – Peter Thomas, Control Specialists and Peter Jüngling, Softing
  • PA Device set up and Commissioning using FDT/DTM and EDDL based tools – Andy Smith, E+H and Mark McCormick, Siemens Process Control
  • PROFINET permanent/static monitoring  – Peter Jüngling, Softing and Peter Brown, Siemens

Don’t miss it!
