Do you have something to say at the Conference?

PROFIBUS Group issues call for papers for 2015 ConferenceThe excellent feedback obtained from previous conferences clearly indicates that we should continue to focus on the User community. Consequently the 2015 conference to be held on 23/24 June will concentrate on the real issues of design, implementation, maintenance and management of PROFIBUS and PROFINET systems.

Who will be attending?

The conference is designed for engineers, managers and indeed anyone concerned with the real issues of implementing fieldbus and/or industrial Ethernet technologies. The conference programme will contain a mixture of presentations, demonstrations and hands-on practical sessions that are suitable for a wide variety of experience; from first-time users to those with extensive experience with working systems.

What should be presented?

In addition, the Conference will cover latest developments in PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology for factory and process automation including safety, motion control, wireless implementations and integration with the Internet – “The Internet of Things”. The event will be supported by an exhibition of the latest products and technology demonstrations from member companies.

We now need speakers who are willing to make a short (30/40 minute) presentation on applications and other user aspects of PROFIBUS and PROFINET. Topics can include system design, commissioning and maintenance and can cover any application area or industry sector.  Interactive presentations featuring live demonstrations and hands-on activities are particularly welcome. We are also seeking proposals for papers covering the latest developments in PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology as well as case studies illustrating their use in real world applications. Papers covering current “hot topics” are always welcome.

How to submit proposals for presentations

Proposals for presentations or workshops should be sent to The Papers Committee at to arrive no later than 30th November 2014 addressing the following points:

  1. The working title
  2. Preferred method of presentation: Formal paper or workshop
  3. List up to 5 bullet points to show the subject matter to be covered
  4. Indicate to which of our target audiences the presentation will be of most value:
    1. End Users including installation and maintenance personnel
    2. System designers
    3. Decision makers including managers
  5. Indicate in which “main theme(s)” the presentation best fits:
    1. Process – including hazardous environment
    2. Factory Automation
    3. PROFINET
    4. PROFIBUS
  6. Indicate if suitable for beginners

Presenters will of course be given free admission and refreshments including lunch on the day of their presentation.

PROFINET Logo

UK interest in PROFINET continues to grow as clearly evidenced by the attendance of 23 delegates at the 2nd July PROFINET Developers’ Workshop, hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University in its role of the UK’s PI Competence Centre.

Entitled The Easy Way to PROFINET,  the workshop was presented by  world expert Joerg Bullerschen, System Architect and Senior Key Expert for software development at ComDec in Germany. Over the course of the day, Joerg explained how to develop products and systems for the rapidly growing PROFINET market, covering in detail the development kit, the software user interface and configuration of field devices.

The audience were highly appreciative of the event, which is expected to lead to the appearance on the market of a number of new PROFINET products from UK manufacturers.

“Thank you very much to the PROFIBUS UK Group for organising this workshop, I found it a very interesting and worthwhile day”, said Andy Bridge of SPA, clearly impressed. “I found it a very useful and informative day”, commented Mark Norman of Fairford Electronics.

The PROFIBUS Group presented the Workshop at MMU in association with PROFIBUS Nutzerorganisation e.V. (PNO). It was intended for developers of field devices with a PROFINET interface and covered the PROFINET basics (neighborhood detection, fast start up, redundancy…), unsynchronized and synchronized communication as well as performance upgrade.

“I particularly enjoyed the discussions and questions. Joerg’s knowledge as a developer for PROFINET is perfectly prepared him to answer a wide range of questions in depth” said Dr Xiu Ji, Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering at MMU. “From talking to some of the audience, I understand that they all have some development task at hand. They want to implement PROFINET into their product, which is very encouraging. ”

The Workshop covered the following topics in detail:
