Free Seminar – Manchester – Wednesday Mar 29, 2017
Back by popular demand, this free-to-attend seminar addresses the key practical issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in automated manufacturing and process industry applications.
Covering the use of PROFIBUS, PROFINET and IO-Link in key application areas such as pulp & paper, chemical, utilities, pharmaceutical, packaging, printing, electrical and electronics assembly, robotics, automotive engineering, mechanical handling and logistics, control systems and energy management, it focuses on the practical aspects of using advanced networking technologies from system design and safety considerations through to maintenance and fault-finding.
Supported by demonstrations of actual tools used in configuration and maintenance, the seminar will be of great value to Designers, Production/System Engineers, Instrument Technicians/Engineers and C&I Engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of modern automated factories and process plant.
Standardised in IEC 61158, PROFIBUS and PROFINET provide state of the art digital communications addressing all the needs of manufacturing and process industries, significantly lowering capital expenditure on installation, commissioning and maintenance. They offer unprecedented integration of automation, control, monitoring and safety systems using standardised and widely supported communications and networking solutions.
IO-LINK is an independent sensor/actuator interface solution for use with several industrial fieldbus and industrial network solutions, including PROFIBUS and PROFINET. The presentation will provide an introduction to this technology, the types of devices available, how they are parameterised and how they are integrated within a programmable control system.
This seminar is ably presented by specialists from PI UK member companies. Attendance is free of charge to pre-registered delegates from the User community, i.e. companies that own, operate, design, build or maintain automated plant. The event will provide delegates with an excellent networking opportunity and the ability to speak to our experts whom, we promise, will not force you to buy anything.
“Very well presented and a lot of useful information” “Fantastic as always and very informative”
“Superb day for experience and information”
If you’d like to learn how to simplify your PROFIBUS or PROFINET application … don’t miss this one-day Seminar!

Draft Agenda – subject to change
09.00 | Coffee and Registration
09:30 | Introduction and Profibus & Profinet Update
09.55 | Profibus DP – Commissioning and Maintenance
After a brief introduction to PROFIBUS basics, we outline the essentials needed for successful network commissioning and maintenance. We explain the useful low level indicators of network weakness and how to go about locating and correcting faults, both in new and long running systems. |
|
10.35 | Why you should measure shield currents in PROFIBUS and PROFINET networks
A presentation summarising work done in the area of EMC and Equipotential Bonding with respect to PROFIBUS and PROFINET networks and the implications of EN50310-2016. |
|
11.15 | Coffee | |
11.35 | Current Trends involving PROFIsafe
This presentation will discuss how we approach a safety-related system and why PROFIsafe is a useful tool in modern control systems. The presentation will also cover requirements for modern safety-related systems especially the considerations in relation to Cyber Security and the pre-cautions we should be taking today. |
|
12.15 | PROFINET System Design
This presentation covers the basic requirements for achieving a robust, reliable and maintainable PROFINET system. We will show how a little informed consideration at the design stage can have a major impact on the performance, availability and health checking of a PROFINET system. |
|
12.55 | Lunch | |
13.35 | PROFIBUS system engineering and monitoring
PROFIBUS has been widely used in automation systems for over 25 years. However, there are still new developments and innovations being introduced. This presentation will examine some of the devices and techniques that are available for engineering functions and activities on PROFIBUS systems. |
|
14.15 | PROFINET for IoT, IIoT and Industry 4.0
A short journey to explain the IoT The Internet of Things, IIoT The Industrial Internet of things, IND4.0 from IND1.0 and Big Data. How PROFINET is placed as the ideal Industrial Fieldbus to fulfil the above, how its implemented and why you should consider it. Some of the myths explained. |
|
14.45 | Introduction to IO-Link – Features and Benefits
With an installed base approaching 4 million nodes IO-Link is THE protocol for communication down to the sensor and actuator level. In this presentation Russell will be covering what a typical IO-Link solution consists of, how it interfaces to the control system and what benefits can be derived from this increased level of communication with IO-Link devices. |
